Kindergarten Enrollment at San Tan Charter School is Now Open to the Public

Families Can Choose from a Traditional/Mainstream, Gifted/Kinderversity and Montessori Program

GILBERT, Arizona—The 2020-2021 school year may be in full swing, but at San Tan Charter School, the teachers and staff are already thinking ahead to next year.

For example, the school recently opened its kindergarten enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year to the public; there are several spots that are currently available for young learners.

As Kristofer Sippel, CEO and Superintendent of Schools said, local families who are preparing to send their children to kindergarten later this summer are sure to be pleased with the many options that are available at San Tan Charter School.

In addition to a mainstream “traditional” classroom, San Tan Charter School also offers a Kinderversity/advanced-gifted classroom and Montessori classroom options. Parents can select from half-day and full-day options for each choice.

For younger students who are ready for preschool, San Tan Charter school is also proud to offer a Montessori preschool program.

Each of the kindergarten options will also feature an “essence of Montessori” in regards to the classroom set-up and flow; Sippel said students will be able to move around the room and there will be a variety of tactile and project-based lessons to help keep the kindergarteners engaged.

Kim Aguilar, who has been a teacher for 19 years, 17 of which were in kindergarten, is a Primary Lead Teacher in the San Tan Montessori program, which is open to children age 3 to 6 and shares a campus with the Montessori K-6 elementary charter school tuition-free program.

“Our early education and Kindergarten programs build a strong foundation for the academic and social development of the children by teaching problem solving, social, and leadership skills, and promoting curiosity and love of learning,” she said, adding that she has enjoyed getting to know her students and their families over the course of the school year.

“Throughout the year, I have noticed improvements on subjects like reading and math, as well as learning cognitive and social development. I am excited to continue to watch them grow into lifelong learners.”

Tonya Harris, who is in her first year as the school’s Kinderversity teacher, said despite the COVID-19-related challenges to the school year, she would not want to be doing anything else.

“The kids, parents, and San Tan Charter School staff have been amazing. They have been so flexible and supportive throughout all of this,” Harris said.

“In my classroom, when life gives us lemons, we make lemonade. It’s so important to me that all of the kids, both online and In-person, feel appreciated and loved for the individuals they are.  We are truly a family and I can’t wait to continue my journey with San Tan Charter School for many, many more years to come.”

Parents of incoming kindergarten students are definitely appreciative of the different options for their children, Sippel said. For families who are unsure which option would be best, they work personally with each family to choose the program that is the best fit for each child and where each child can be most successful and happy.
