Mr. Michael Dickey brings a rare combination of science education and sports medicine expertise to San Tan Charter School. A Michigan native, he earned a B.S. in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University and a Master of Public Administration from Grand Valley State University, where he also served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer overseeing nearly 900 Division II NCAA athletes and taught undergraduate first aid and athletic training classes.
Mr. Dickey built a 20-year career as a Board-Certified Athletic Trainer across high school, university, and outpatient orthopedic physical therapy settings — most notably as Athletic Trainer for the Harlem Globetrotters. He most recently taught AP Chemistry, Chemistry, and Physics at STCS’s Power Campus.
In 2026–27, Mr. Dickey will teach 7th and 8th grade Integrated Science, Biology, and Earth Science in the Montessori Adolescent program, along with Sports Medicine I at Power Campus. He will also serve as STCS’s on-campus Certified Athletic Trainer.
He believes science should be driven by student curiosity — demanding creative thinking, real experimentation, and genuine problem-solving over memorized facts.
Outside the classroom, last year he coached STCS junior high school flag football, leading his middle school team to a 4th-place state finish in his first season. He and his wife Kelsa have two children, Carmen and Alex, both STCS Montessori students. He’s a devoted Detroit and Arizona sports fan, live music enthusiast (14 Phish shows and counting across five states), and enjoys going back home to Michigan in the summer.
