San Tan Charter School’s tuition-free Gifted Program serves students in Grades 1–12. In elementary grades, students learn in self-contained gifted classes with cluster groupings. As they transition into upper elementary and high school, students benefit from advanced courses, diverse electives, and academic competitions.
We believe early identification of giftedness is key. Without proper support, many gifted students face academic and social struggles that can impact their growth. By identifying students early, we can provide the right instructional approaches to nurture their intellectual, emotional, and creative development. San Tan uses a multi-faceted process for gifted identification, ensuring students receive the support they need to thrive.
Gifted students in kindergarten through 4th grade learn in self-contained classrooms that provide advanced academics, individualized support, and a nurturing environment to help them grow with confidence.
As students progress, the program expands with subject-specific teachers and introductory electives. This stage balances rigorous academics with opportunities to explore new interests, preparing students for the challenges ahead.
Gifted learners in grades 7–12 access Honors and AP courses, academic competitions, and diverse electives. With a collaborative cohort and experienced teachers, students are challenged to reach their highest potential while preparing for college and beyond.
Every gifted student receives a personalized Roadrunner Roadmap™ that supports both academic and emotional growth. All teachers within the Gifted classroom are highly qualified, gifted endorsed or working towards gifted certification.
Qualifying Gifted students enjoy the support and challenge that a peer group of similar academic interests and abilities provides. The goal of this program is to provide students who have advanced intellectual, academic, and/or creative thinking skills the opportunity to dynamically interact with teachers who specialize in Gifted education.

Gifted students in grades 7–12 continue receiving the same high-quality support as in earlier years, now with subject-specific teachers and a full multi-period schedule.
Many remain with their gifted cohort in core classes, giving teachers the ability to set the right pace and depth for advanced learners. Students excelling in math also have the option to accelerate into higher-level courses that match their abilities.
Arizona requires public schools to provide gifted education for qualifying students. At San Tan, identification begins with standardized testing.
Eligibility: Students who score at or above the 97th percentile on a state-approved gifted test (such as the Cognitive Abilities Test) qualify for gifted services.
Testing: Families may request testing for their child in grades 1–12. San Tan also screens all students in 2nd grade for gifted potential.
Cost: A $50 fee applies for initial testing. Students who meet state criteria are placed in the Gifted Program.
Special Considerations: Students with handicapping conditions or Limited English Proficiency are considered for appropriate accommodations during testing.
For more details about testing dates and registration, please visit our Gifted Information Page.

My experience at San Tan Charter School has been no complaint. I have been to two different schools during my three years in high school. I am now a senior and I am enjoying every minute of it.
