Love & Logic

San Tan Charter School is committed to creating classrooms where teachers love teaching and students love learning. By fostering collaboration between educators, students, and families, we help children build confidence, face challenges, and develop critical thinking skills while forming compassionate, respectful relationships.

To support this commitment, STCS uses the Love and Logic® Educators Program, a nationally recognized approach to classroom management. This program emphasizes relationships first—teachers set clear expectations, communicate with respect, and guide students toward personal responsibility and problem-solving.

The Love and Logic® philosophy extends throughout our school community, shaping a culture of mutual respect. Established in the 1970s by educator Jim Fay and child psychiatrist Dr. Foster W. Cline, the program is based on the idea that children thrive when they:

Have loving, compassionate, and genuinely empathetic parents and teachers.
Experience consistent limits and accountability.
Are allowed to learn by making plenty of small, “affordable” mistakes.
Are taught to own and solve the problems they encounter.

The Love and Logic® Educators Program equips our teachers and leaders with tools that strengthen parent–teacher and teacher–student relationships while promoting positive, school-wide discipline.

The Love and Logic® approach helps students connect actions with outcomes.

When adults take care of themselves, they hand the problem back to the student who created it.
When students have to solve the problem, they are required to think.
When students think, they begin to understand that decisions have consequences.
When students face consequences, they learn to think before acting.
When students ask themselves, “How is my behavior going to affect me?” they develop true self-control.

Consistency Matters With Love and Logic®

Consistency is a core principle of Love and Logic®. At San Tan Charter School, all teachers and staff complete Love and Logic® training, and we have a dedicated on-site trainer available for staff consultations and classroom observations. To extend this consistency at home, our trainer also offers Love and Logic® parenting classes for San Tan families.
