Wayne Porter

Assistant Principal

Wayne Porter serves as Assistant Principal at San Tan Charter School, bringing more than 17 years of school administration experience — including 10 years as a Principal and 7 years as an Assistant Principal — to the San Tan community.
Born and raised in Utah, Wayne has called Arizona home for the past 35 years. He lives in Gilbert with his wife Julie, his best friend and partner of nearly 37 years. He and Julie have three children — Erik, Preston, and Anna — all of whom live in Arizona with their spouses. Wayne’s greatest joy outside of work is being grandfather to Grayson.
Wayne earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from BYU before beginning his first career in his family’s new home building company, where he led sales and marketing. His passion for learning and teaching eventually drew him to education, and he went on to earn both his M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from ASU. He has taught math at the middle school, high school, and college levels before moving into school leadership.
Outside of school, Wayne enjoys swimming, reading, watching sports — especially basketball — and traveling. As a student, he played trumpet in the marching band and basketball all four years of high school. He is also an active member of his church, which is an important part of his life.
Wayne is honored to be part of the San Tan community and looks forward to supporting students, partnering with families, and helping the school thrive.
